Nodularisers from ErgoMag product range are magnesium ferrosilicon alloyed with carefully controlled amount of magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca), aluminium (Al), silicon (Si), rare earth metals (RE) and ferrum (Fe) on balance. These nodularizers were developed for ductile iron (spheroidical graphite iron) production to get nodular (spheriodical) shape of graphite in castings. Typical content of major elements in ErgoMag nodularisers is:
Si, % |
Mg, % |
RE, % |
Ca, % |
Al, % |

Nodularisers from ErgoMag family were developed to suit any known DI method treatment – overpour/sandwich-process, Tundish cover, In-mould, Flow trough, Plunging, Cored wire.
Effects of elements in nodulariser:
Magnesium The most essential element for ductile irons. Deoxidiser and desulphuriser, enabling nodular graphite growth.
Rare earth metals:
– Cerium Deoxidiser and desulphuriser, enabling nodular graphite growth. Effective inoculant, more fade resistant than Mg.
– Lanthanium Deoxidiser and desulphuriser, enabling nodular graphite growth. Effective inoculant, stronger than Ce, more fade resistant than Mg.
Calcium Improves spheroidization of graphite nodules. Improves graphite nucleation. Reduces chilling tendency and promotes graphite.
Aluminium Improves graphite nucleation and promotes formation of ferrite. Neutralizes nitrogen. May be neutralized by cerium. Promotes H-pinholes above >0.015%.
